The Mind Wobbles

So many things to absorb, think about, deal with and put up with - it simply makes the mind wobble...

What if you had a Hurricane...and it didn't come?

Well, it's over - Tropical Storm Ernesto is but a memory. Thankfully nothing major happened and everyone is OK. With memories of last year still fresh on our minds, everyone prepared for it. Hopefully this won't make people dismiss the next warning.

So...I just finished reading a wonderful book named "The Year of Pleasures" by Elizabeth Berg.

The friend who recommended it, called it a "coming of age story for a widow" - and I think it's a good description. Although very sad at parts, it leaves you with a sense of hope and optimism.

Today I start "Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen.
I'll let you know how it goes...

Tropical Storm Ernesto

The mess below is Tropical Storm Ernesto as of 5 p.m. EST

In the midst of our own potential hurricane/tropical storm drama here in Miami, I've been watching stuff about last year's Hurricane Katrina and the aftermath of the levees breaking. And I'm furious! The images I've been seeing, not only on the news but also in Spike Lee's documentary "When the Levee Broke" don't belong in the United States! Dead bodies on the street? Mothers having to reuse their babies' dirty diapers while in the "shelter" of the Superdome? What is that? WHERE is that? That's not the U.S.

But it was. And the people - at all levels of government - who due to their incompetence and neglect were responsible for the chaos are still in office.

Blog Virgin

Yes - that's me a blog virgin. Oh I'm a promiscuous blog reader...but that's different.

So as I sit in my Miami condo waiting for Tropical Storm (thankfully not Hurricane) Ernesto , I figured I'd give this a shot. I am notoriously bad at any type of journaling, and this is, after all, a type of journaling. Only it seems - cooler. We'll see how it goes.

So please bear with me and I'll spill what's on my mind...
