Jane Austen's "Persuasion" on PBS
Have you seen "Persuasion" yet? I watched it last night and it was awesome! The hour and a half flew by.
The story of course was great, less humor than P&P, but the actress playing Anne (the heroine) was fantastic and wholly likable. She's made to look very plain and dowdy but she manages to make you think she's beautiful. And the hero was suitably dashing.
Of course BBC's trademark staging and scenery was, as usual, phenomenal, even incorporating a few breathtaking seaside scenes. The details in all the sets and costuming were spot on.
I can hardly wait for next Sunday's "Northanger Abbey" which supposedly parodies Gothic fiction. From the trailer, it seems like it will be funny and maybe a little scary!
Jane Austen rocks!
