RIP Molly Ivens

Author and syndicated journalist Molly Ivins died of breast cancer yesterday. With her goes one of the best - IMO - voices that was critical of Dubyuh and conservative politics in general. I read Shrub – The Short But Happy Political Life of George W. Bush and not only enjoyed her writing and humor - but I actually learned stuff.
Although her humor was skewering, I didn't find it to be mean-spirited. She didn't just repeat anti-Dubyuh rhetoric, her assertions were fully sourced and reliable.

In her last column, dated 1/11/2007 Stand Up Against the Surge she tells us:

We are the people who run this country. We are the deciders. And every single day, every single one of us needs to step outside and take some action to help stop this war. Raise hell. Think of something to make the ridiculous look ridiculous.

Make our troops know we're for them and trying to get them out of there. Hit the streets to protest Bush's proposed surge. If you can, go to the peace march in Washington on January 27. We need people in the streets, banging pots and pans and demanding, "Stop it, now!"

Sadly, Molly has done all she can. It is up to us to heed her rallying cry - in any way we can.

Thanks Molly, your voice will definitely be missed. 2008 is almost here, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, I'm sorry you won't be around for the celebration.

That's one of the things I truly enjoyed about Molly Ivins -- you could laugh and learn things at the same time.
