12 Years and Counting

I'm writing this at 8:52 p.m. on November 1. 12 years ago at this time, Hubby and I were smack-dab in the middle of our Wedding Reception. By this time my father had already left for the hospital because a kidney stone and I had already stuck a contact lens into an eye that already had one in there - rendering me virtually blind for my reception.

Yet despite all that plus the plethora of misadventures that befell us on that unseasonably rainy day - we're talking biblical proportions - our reception was awesome! Great friends and family from all over, excellent music provided by what may easily be the only Cuban DJ in the area, very good food and a whole lot of laughter. What more do you need?

Twelve years later we spent this lazy Sunday at home, playing on the computer, watching football and now watching the Phillies in the World Series - GO PHILLIES W00T! But between the football games and the baseball game we maintained our anniversary tradition. Afterwards we sat for a while looked at our wedding album and talked. We talked about how things have changed, stuff we want to work on, and we reminisced about that day twelve years ago - and we laughed! We still laugh...I know we always will.

To my husband, the love of my life, Happy Anniversary baby! It's been a hell of a ride, and the road ahead is wide open...let's go!

The Lola Shuffle - The "Make Up for Last Week" Edition

I'm sorry I missed last week's shuffle...I was busy and time got away from me. So today, Lola will shuffle up 20 songs to make up for the missed randomness.

Of course today is 9/11. Everything that has to be said has been said and then some. When I woke up this morning I found myself thinking about how I felt that day. Upon finding out there was initial disbelief and confusion. Then when they hit the Pentagon and we found out about the third plane there was panic. When I got home and started watching the endless coverage, I think I somehow skipped anger and went straight to deep, dull sadness.

That's what I feel today - sad for the victims, for the families of those we lost, for the country we used to be and will probably never be again, and for the subsequent victims - those who have died in the wars and their families. So much violence, tragedy and senseless loss.

So today I say a prayer for all those who were saddened to a degree that would seem unbearable. And today I gave my husband an extra kiss and a bigger hug when he dropped me off at work, because you just never know...

57 Years Ago Today

Today would have been my parents' 57th wedding anniversary. That's them up there, in 1952, shortly before they got married.

This year Hubby and I will celebrate our 12th anniversary, I can't even fathom 57 years!

In my heart they're together, celebrating with food, music and old friends. Hey - maybe in Heaven my father can dance! Maybe Edith Piaf will sing "La Vie en Rose" for them...

11 years ago today Hubby and I got married - Saturday, November 1, 1997.

It seems surreal. In a way it's like he's always been in my life, and in others it seems like we've been married for 5 years or so.

Marrying him is definitely one of the best decisions I've ever made. It's not always easy, but it's always worth it. Some days are better than others but, to paraphrase the song, "I love him more today than yesterday, but not as much as tomorrow...".

Our 10th Wedding Anniversary

Happy 10th Anniversary to hubby and me! Yep, it's been 10 years. It's so strange - in a way it feels like yesterday, but it also feels like we've been together forever.

We're not doing anything special today. Our trip to New Orleans back in April was our anniversary trip and Saturday we're going to lunch at a new Mexican restaurant that's gotten wonderful reviews. Then when we go to Philadelphia we're planning on going to our *special* restaurant in South Philly, the Italian neighborhood.

Actually our *big event* tonight is to play World of Warcraft with some friends and do a major "raid event" - we'll see how we do. But, as I told you last year, we'll still find time for our anniversary tradition.

So, to my husband: Happy Anniversary baby - thanks for giving me a wonderful 10 years. I'll be with you forever, you're my heart.
